Dental BracesWhich Braces Are Right for You?

Many people don't have perfect teeth—sometimes teeth just don't grow in evenly! If you feel like fixing these issues, however, many different types of braces are available to straighten and align your smile. Led by Dr. Josh Goldknopf, The Brace Place (with offices in Ponte Vedra, FL, and Jacksonville Beach, FL) offers braces to patients with teeth alignment issues. The following information will help you determine which type of braces is right for you!

1. Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common type of dental braces on the market. Made of stainless steel, metal dental braces straighten your teeth using metal archwires and brackets. Today, dentists offer metal braces that are much smaller and more comfortable than the bulky braces that everyone remembers. Metal braces are an effective teeth straightening method and also the least expensive option.

2. Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as traditional metal braces, but they have tooth-colored brackets that blend in with your teeth. Some ceramic braces even use tooth-colored wires to be less noticeable. These braces often cost more than regular dental braces because of the materials involved.

3. Invisalign

Invisalign is the clear alternative to traditional metal braces for patients. Invisalign straightens teeth using removable aligners that are custom-fitted for your teeth. Invisalign straightens your smile through the placement of controlled force on the teeth. Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and very comfortable to wear. The aligners are removable, so you can eat and drink whatever you want, whenever you want. The typical price of Invisalign braces is usually higher than regular braces.

4. Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are the same as metal braces, except that the wires and brackets are placed on the back of the teeth. Because the hardware is on the back of the teeth, lingual braces are invisible. Lingual braces cost more than metal braces because they're a custom solution that has been made in a laboratory to fit your teeth.
