You may believe that the time for improving your smile with orthodontic care is long past and that this procedure is reserved for young invisalignpeople. On the other hand, you think that traditional metal braces would compromise your look more than a straightened smile would benefit your teeth. However, you can now straighten your smile and correct your bite discreetly and effectively with Invisalign. Find out more about Invisalign with Dr. Josh Goldknopf at The Brace Place Orthodontics with locations in Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra, FL.

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a method of orthodontic treatment which eliminates the need for metal brackets and wires permanently attached to the teeth. Instead, Invisalign allows the wearer to straighten their smile using clear, plastic aligner trays. The trays come in a series, the number of which varies from patient to patient, and are worn for about two weeks at a time. Thanks to their design, the trays can be removed to brush, floss, or eat.

How does Invisalign work?
Before beginning treatment, your orthodontist will take a 3D model of your mouth to send to Invisalign’s laboratory. There, technicians will create a video displaying the route on which your teeth will move, including your final results. After you and your orthodontist’s approval, the trays are customized to your mouth’s specifications.

During treatment, Invisalign’s aligner trays use pressure carefully pinpointed to certain areas of the teeth to move them into their final positions. Your dentist may recommend using small, tooth-colored bumps called attachments affixed to the surface of the teeth to further direct the trays’ pressure.

Can Invisalign help me?
Invisalign is recommended for patients over the age of 12 with a strong at-home oral care routine. Failing to properly care for the teeth by brushing twice daily and flossing at least once can cause teeth decay or gum disease which could lengthen treatment times or hinder your final results. Additionally, patients should understand that they need to see their dentist about every six weeks for routine maintenance and check-ups.

The Benefits of Invisalign in Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra
Traditional braces remain permanently on the teeth throughout treatment. Since Invisalign is removable, you can brush, floss, and eat just as you would before braces. Though patients should wear their trays for at least 22 hours a day, they can also be removed for special occasions like the prom or a public speaking engagement.
