Braces are a classic option for straightening your smile, but if you are looking for a more discreet choice, clear aligners may work for you.

Inconspicuous, efficient, comfortable, and effective, clear aligners from the Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Verda, FL, office of Dr. Josh Goldknopf can help you achieve your best smile.

What are aligners?

Aligners, made of clear, flexible plastic, are custom made to fit over your teeth to provide gentle straightening over a period of time. After taking a mold of your teeth, the aligners are crafted and given to you in incremental sets. You will wear each for a few weeks at a time before graduating to the next set.

What are the benefits of aligners?

You may find aligners to be more comfortable than braces, as there are no brackets that could irritate your gums. In addition, because each aligner concentrates on only a few teeth at a time, there is less pressure put on your mouth.

Braces do come in less noticeable options, but clear aligners are the most discreet choice for straightening your teeth. Because they are translucent and molded to fit snuggly over your teeth, no one will be able to tell you are wearing them.

Clear aligners from our Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Verda, FL, offices are easy to care for, and you only need to keep them around for a few weeks before discarding them. You can brush and floss like normal after removing them, and give the aligners a good rinse to keep them clean.

Like braces, aligners take some time to reach full results, but aligners can even out your smile in as little as a year if they are worn as instructed for 22 hours a day.

Clear aligners from the Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Verda, FL, offices of Dr. Goldknopf could be your path to a great smile. Call us today at (904) 249-0037 for a consultation.

Find out if Invisalign is the best orthodontic alternative to correct your smile.

If you’re an adult you probably think the ship has sailed on getting a straighter smile. Not so fast! If you are dealing with a bad bite, crooked or misaligned teeth, or gaps between teeth then you could just be a great candidate for Invisalign, which our Jacksonville Beach, FL, orthodontist Dr. Josh Goldknopf is happy to offer to his older teen and adult patients.

What Makes Invisalign Different

One of the biggest concerns our older patients have is that their braces will be visible. They don’t want to walk into an important conference or meeting just to have everyone stare at their braces. We get that, which is why our Jacksonville Beach, FL, orthodontist offers Invisalign in the first place. It’s completely discreet, using specially crafted and completely transparent plastic aligners that fit snug against the teeth.

Computer technology is used to determine every little shift and movement of your teeth that is required to get your smile into the ideal alignment. This data is then set to an Invisalign-approved lab, where they will make your set of aligners. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced with the next set. The number of aligners you have will depend on the severity of your dental issues. The average number of Invisalign aligners in a treatment plan is between 20-30.

Who is a Good Candidate for Invisalign

Invisalign is approved for older teens and adults whose teeth have fully matured and are done growing. Since little kids’ teeth aren’t done growing, this means that aligners won’t provide the appropriate fit needed to properly move teeth around, which is why teeth must be fully developed before Invisalign can be offered. Invisalign is a great way to treat,

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbites
  • Crowding
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites
  • Overlapping teeth

Dealing with one or more of these issues? If so, Invisalign could easily correct these problems and give you the results you’re looking for. What are you waiting for?

If Invisalign sounds like the ideal option for you, then it’s time to sit down with our orthodontist Dr. Goldknopf at our Jacksonville Beach, FL, or Ponte Vedra, FL, location. To schedule an orthodontic consultation, call The Brace Place at (904) 249-0037.

Braces for adults from your dentist in Jacksonville Beach, FL, can help you enjoy a straight smile.

You may be thinking orthodontic treatment can’t help you, because you are not a teenager, you’re an adult. The truth is, it’s never too late to straighten your smile, no matter how old you are. Adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment too.

Dr. Josh Goldknopf at The Brace Place Orthodontics offers a wide range of orthodontic services for people of all ages, including adults. He has two convenient office locations in Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Vedra, Fl, to help you enjoy a straight smile.

These are just a few of the ways having a straight smile helps you:

  • You look better; a straight smile is far more aesthetically appealing than crowded, rotated teeth.
  • You have more confidence; when you look your best, you naturally will have greater self-confidence because you feel better about yourself and how you look.
  • You chew your food better; when your teeth come together fully, your chewing ability is enhanced, which helps your digestion and your overall health.
  • Your smile is easier to keep clean; straight teeth are much easier to brush and floss, so it’s easy to keep your smile healthy.
  • You decrease jaw stress; when your teeth come together properly, your jaws experience far less stress, which means less chance of TMJ problems and jaw pain.
  • You decrease tooth damage; when your teeth come together as they should, there is less tooth wear, which leads to less chance of you needing dental restorations later on.

No matter how old you are, you are a perfect candidate for orthodontic treatment if you have:

  • An overbite or underbite
  • An open bite or crossbite
  • Gaps between your teeth
  • Unevenly spaced teeth
  • Crowded, rotated teeth
  • Overlapped teeth

There are several types of orthodontic treatment to choose from, including:

  • Conventional metal braces, which are the traditional braces
  • Ceramic brackets with tooth-colored wires, offering a more discreet look
  • Lingual braces, which are cemented onto the back surfaces of your teeth

You can also try out plastic dental appliances, known as aligners. These are the most discreet orthodontic treatment, and they offer the added benefit of being able to remove them when you brush, floss, or eat.

To find out more about the benefits of a straight smile and orthodontic options to choose from, talk with the experts. Call Dr. Goldknopf at The Brace Place Orthodontics. You can reach him in Jacksonville Beach, or Ponte Vedra, Fl, at (904) 249-0037, so call now!

Braces conjure memories of teenage years for most, and you've likely come across conflicting advice regarding orthodontics at a younger age. But the truth is many benefit from early orthodontic intervention, and though not all children will require it, an early examination is important for all. Two-phase orthodontic treatment, just as the name suggests, allows for this early treatment by performing it in two phases, one before the permanent teeth completely come in, and the second after they have. If you would like to learn more reach out to Dr. Josh Goldknopf of The Brace Place in Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville Beach, FL.

Why Early

While straight teeth are more attractive, the reason for the two-phase treatment is not merely an aesthetic one. Bite conditions, for example, can be best addressed at an early age while the jaws are still developing. It's also the case for other orthodontic problems, the earlier they are treated the less involved the procedure required to correct them.

First Phase

During the first phase of the treatment, while your child still has some baby teeth, the goal is to prepare the mouth for the incoming permanent teeth, to adjust the jaw as it grows, and to help halt bad oral habits, among others. Braces are not typically part of this phase but there is instead a focus on other types of appliances.

Second Phase

After a pause to allow most adult teeth to erupt, the second phase will usually begin. This completes the treatment begun in the first by wearing braces and can take from 12 to 24 months, depending on the condition being treated.

Two-Phase Treatment in Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville Beach, FL

It's important to remember that not all children will require early treatment, but an early examination can save you and your child from future far more intricate work in order to correct their smile. To find out whether your child can benefit from two-phase orthodontic treatment, begin by scheduling an appointment today with Dr. Goldknopf of The Brace Place in Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville Beach, FL, by dialing (904) 249-0037.

Aesthetics alone are a reason why many adults are flocking to orthodontic care they may have missed out on when they were younger. It's important not to discount aesthetics, our smile factors in greatly to our self-esteem, and correcting a few imperfections can boost it.

But the benefits of orthodontic care go beyond improving the appearance of your smile. Through the available treatments, you can help prevent bite complications. To find out about all the ways that orthodontic care can help improve your quality of life, please reach out to your Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville Beach, FL, orthodontist Dr. Josh Goldknopf of The Brace Place Orthodontics.

Bites, Straightening, and Spacing

Bite-related conditions are referred to by different names highlighting the problem with each. The most common are overbites, underbites, and crossbites. They occur for a number of reasons, often genetic, and as a result of the malformation of the jaw, causing the mouth to not close properly. Untreated, these conditions can create further difficulties with your jaw joints and wear on your teeth as they rub against each other.

Problems with the arrangement of your teeth, such as teeth that are crooked, overcrowded, or with gaps too large, can create difficult to clean areas between them. This can allow plaque to build up and with it the bacteria that damage our gums and teeth.

Correcting both bite conditions and spacing issues can provide you a brand new smile, but it can also help prevent problems that would hinder not just its appearance, but your mouth's overall health.

Orthodontic Care in Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville Beach, FL

Whatever it is you're hoping to correct, your orthodontist can select the best treatment tailored to your own conditions and circumstances. Traditional braces may be the best recourse for more severe cases and for younger teenagers. Invisalign clear aligners can correct many of the same conditions as braces, with added advantages in the form of a less limited diet, easier hygiene, and a less visible appliance, among others. For certain situations, your dentist may find that you would be best served by surgical orthodontics.

But to know for sure just what orthodontic care can do for you, your first step is to come into the office, so make an appointment today with Dr. Goldknopf of The Brace Place Orthodontics in Ponte Vedra, and Jacksonville Beach, FL, by dialing (904) 222-8588.
